Where is Robert Townsend? I watched Hollywood Shuffle Friday night and realized the amount of guts it took to finance a film about the struggles Black actors faced in 1980's Hollywood having to resort to demeaning and stereotypic roles. It made me wish that someone had the gumption to flip Hollywood the bird on film now and let them know that Black America goes a little deeper than Tyler Perry films.
Beyond Hollywood Shuffle was one of your favorite movies, The Five Heartbeats (Is there a heart in the house tonight?), Eddie Murphy Raw, then the wack Meteor Man and B.A.P.S. Next, he was off to television to do "The Parent 'Hood" and then he seemingly disappeared. Low and behold, Robert Townsend has created a web-based series called "Diary of a Single Mom" starring Monica Calhoun, Leon, Billy Dee Williams, Richard Roundtree and others that chronicle the obstacles that single mothers face on a daily basis. Check it out here
