The Hump Day Song of the Week: My Favorite Song #1 Stevie Wonder - "As"

Tens of thousands of songs in my head and this is #1? It wasn’t even close. I could’ve filled this list with Stevie Wonder had I wanted to. Hands down, Stevie Wonder is the greatest artist ever! Not performer, artist. Check the stats; folks were scrambling to drop albums when he wasn’t in the 70’s so people would pay attention. He won “Album of the Year” three out of four years in the mid-70’s and the year he didn’t win is because he was crafting Songs in the Key of Life, his magnum opus.

Back to “As”, the song is a beautifully layered track pledging an unending love in the key of life, you know what, I can’t even find the words to explain what this song means to me. It's really hard to explain how much this song touches me; difficult to tell you that I've been looking for the woman to make me feel this way since I first heard the song, even before I knew what it meant.

Stevie goes through changes on the track, escalating with his passion until the climax of the song when he repeatedly tries to explain just how much he’ll be loving this woman. The melody, the lyrics, the symbolism, his voice, the song is excellent and wasn’t even a big hit for Stevie, a testament to his greatness. However, I'll love it until the day that Mother Nature says her work is through…
