Dr. King's "dream" has become the center of a storm of controversy lately in the Presidential election as Hillary Clinton referred to Lyndon Johnson as being a President in position to make "the dream" a reality to some was spun as belittling the sacrifices and efforts of Dr. King. Barack Obama quickly jumped in and called her silly and the said the Clintons were playing the race game as strategy. BET founder Bob Johnson even jumped into the fray, making remarks that referenced Obama’s past drug usage.
Bob Johnson, he whose creation (BET) has done more to undermine any dream or hopes of a community than any one force next to crack, by pushing forth some of the most denigrating images and continued stereotypes had the nerve to open his mouth about something other than business or videos. He who said he puts on his pants as a businessman first, rather than a black man spoke about something being embarrassing to the community
Maybe I’m a dreamer, but I would really like for someone with the resources and outlet to really stand up and take charge. It seems that each time someone is in position to speak for those without a voice, a little carrot is dangled in front of them and the focus is lost. Around the time that Jesse Jackson cut his afro and ran for President, PUSH/Excel and The Rainbow Coalition began to suffer. Sine around the time Roy Innis pushed Al Sharpton over a chair, he would rather be at the 40/40 grand opening in Vegas or jump on a cause with legs already. Oprah wants to give away Pontiacs to white folks and Bill Cosby is bitter and senile
So, if Obama loses, where does he end up? Does he become our voice, our face or will he still try to place the game? Or, will he “crust and surgar over, like a syrupy sweet?
