Grand Opening...Grand Closing

Buy Black! Support Black Business! Black Owned! Keep the Black dollar in the community! That's all well and good and Black business has shown it can sustain on the large scale (Johnson Publications, Oprah, BET, etc...), but I'm talking about the Black-owned business down the street from you. You know the place that operates on CP time? Opens at 3 and closes at 9.

Quite often we see new restaurants, clubs, bookstore, clothing stores, all kinds of things open up and they're run by Black folks and not soon after they are being closed, because Black folks don't shop there. I'm saying, it's hard to keep going to a joint when you're trying to get some chicken at 2pm and the grease is still warming up. Yet, the Colonial has been dropping 2-piece biscuit meals since 11am!

(Sidebar): Stop opening bookstores in the hood, Black folks don't read like that! And no, that Street Lit crap doesn't count! Yeah I said it, pout your lips and apply fingers to keyboard, then check in Monday!

Sorry for that little tirade...At its best, Black business is a beautiful thing. To see people who look like you run a thriving enterprise (not on 4th & Plainfield Ave.), people frequenting the establishment, spending money, beautiful!

But, it’s hard to keep supporting a place when you’re tying to order a fish samich and the cashier is on her chirp trying to set a hair appointment with Peanut! Black folks, stop letting your kids work for you, It’s hard to run a tight ship when you got your mama making collard greens and your daughter serving the food.

And you know how we do yall. We gotta do it B.I.G.! Marble floors, 24K gold trimming on the menus, plasmas on the wall, then the Tax Man comes calling and the lights padlock is on the door! Maybe one or two of these businessmen and women should head to their local Community College and take an Accounting class or two, some Business Law, Economics, something.

Just my thoughts Ladies and Gentlemen!
