Randomness of an Insomniac

When you're dealing with some sort of sleep deprivation, you always have to be prepared to spend long hours awake, doing absolutely nothing! After around three hours of sleep, I woke up and was awake for the next four! I could either stare at the ceiling or find something else to do with my time, like get on the internet and read...everything!

The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" set a weekend record by grossing over $155 million, but none of it came from my pocket and judging by that haul, none of it will. I feel the need to go see "Meet Dave" which has brought in measly $9 million through two weeks! I wonder if Eddie Murphy still gets $20 million just to sign on to a movie? If so, he needs to do a sequel named "Meet Dave...Kiss my A..!" But seriously, Eddie needs to get back to what made him Eddie. Hook up with Martin Lawrence and give us some more classic material like "Life", the upper room!

Will Smith is the undisputed king of the box office, eight straight films have gone straight to #1 and grossed over $100 million. Now, if we can get a sister to co-star with him for more than ten minutes, he'll be straight!

Speaking of Hollywood, The Wire received one Emmy nomination, for writing, while John Adams got 23. I guess Hollywood would rather romanticize America's humble beginnings than embrace it's bitter modernity.

Estelle Getty died at age 84...figured I'd throw that in there.

Looks like Nas is gonna sale close to 200,000 copies of his "Untitled" album. That total is a million less than Lil' Wayne sold of his drug-induced "Carter III". Looks like the hip-hop nation would rather support some drugged out incoherent fraud, than listen to someone corresponding directly from the communities from which they were born....

Further proof that our culture of excess is not restricted to Black folk, one-time producer of the moment Scott Storch has squandered a near $100 million fortune and is behind on real estate taxes, has had his yacht repossessed and is behind on child support. I know he heard Barack, take care of your babies Scott!

Prosecutors are requesting that former Newark mayor Sharpe James receive the maximum penalty of close to 20 years for his conviction. Let me get this right, he was arrested for using his position to take lavish vacations, get side money on deals and hook his street booty up with some change of her own? And they want to send him to jail for what could amount to be a life sentence? The man is 72-years-old and I've read about all kinds of politicians doing similar and worse and don't recall any of them getting more time than some get for murder! Do you think it's because his name is Sharpe or does it have to do with something else?

I'm still tripping off the fact that R. Kelly's lawyers used The Wayans' Brother's film "Little Man" as part of their defense to show how someone could've digitally altered the video placing R.'s head on someone else's body! I'm tripping even more that it worked to a certain degree! Who was on that jury, the disciples...Gangster Disciples that is! Two songs leaked since R. Kelly's acquittal, "Freak Show" and "Skin"...not guilty!

Erykah Badu has a free show August 4th in Brooklyn!

Can I get a soul clap? While R&B artists are doing their best to crossover and make all kinds of soulless music, Robin Thicke has made one of the best songs of the year, check out his new single "Magic".

When keeping it real just ain't keeping it real at all...Looks like Rick Ross was really a boss back in the 90's! "Boss" meaning a Corrections Officer! Photos and documentation are floating around the net showing "evidence" of a dude purported to be the big belly rapper graduating from C.O. training and says that he worked in the prison system for 18 months making around $23,000 a year. Maybe he was one of those dirty dudes who snuck the drugs into the prison and that's why he was fired and went on to flood Dade County with cocaine!

I believe that about as much as I believe Lil' Wayne's gangster! The same Lil' Wayne that wouldn't roll down his window when approached by G-Unit rapper 40 Glocc and some other Crips on a recent trip to LA! Check the video...
