In the Wee Hours of the Night...Marsha Ambrosius Crafts a Masterpiece

The United Kingdom gave America Pop music icons like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John and others, but Soul music specifically received Sade, Lisa Stansfied and Soul II Soul. Now, we are the recipients of the gifts of Marsha Ambrosius and her debut solo album, Late Nights and Early Mornings. We became acquainted with Marsha through Floetry and their two studio albums that produced “Floetic”, “Say Yes” and “Getting Late” amongst others, but then they were no more and Marsha Ambrosius was on her own. Her name kept appearing in the credits of numerous artists as either a writer/producer or she was lending her tremendous vocals, she was extremely busy.


There was the signing with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment that didn’t yield an album, two mixtapes and an influx of guest appearances, but still no album. Then, we were introduced to the bitter ex anthem “Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player) last summer, which made it clear that the album was coming, but a few start and stops left fans wondering if it was ever going to happen. “Anticipation” is the albums intro and also describes what fans (writer included) have felt since news of Floetry’s split over four years ago. The good news is that Late Nights and Early Mornings is finally here, the great news is that it doesn’t disappoint.
